> ON THE SPRING / SUMMER 2016 COVER:
Each spring, my mom loves to get outside and plant wild flowers, sunflowers, and zinnias - one of her all time garden favorites. I was lucky enough to capture this beauty last spring. We loved it so much it became our cover. Zinnias are the workhorse in a garden - they just keep on giving!
Zinnia Elegans are an herb that belongs to the Aster family. They are named after the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn. Depending on the climate, there are both annual and perennial zinnia plants.
Zinnias are frequently cultivated in butterfly gardens and attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, which eliminate whiteflies—insects that feed on the leaves of various plants in the gardens.
> Zinnia symbolizes friendship in the language of flowers.
> Orange symbolizes creativity, happiness, change, energy and endurance.
> Orange is the only color of the spectrum whose name was taken from an object, the popular fruit —the orange.
>In nature, it’s the color of vivid sunsets, fire, vegetables, flowers, fish and many citrus fruits.
